Fashion Sinner

I strayed from the project this morning and wore Birkenstocks to the supermarket. Tomorrow I will be back on the blogging/beauty wagon, promise! Weekend was packed full with graduation parties/other relevant end-of-year celebrating.

Edited to add: Doing some research for a post on LGBT teens in media. Hope to get this post up by tonight. If you want to help me out, send this interview survey to the gay/bi teen girls in your life please! http://tinyurl.com/17magLGBTquiz

  2. A friend of mine posted a link to your blog on his livejournal and I just spend the last hour and a half reading all the entries. I was amused, entertained, educated, and can't wait to read more.

  3. Found your blog after Tavi tweeted about it and just wanted to say how great it is. I snorted at the line 'As far as I was aware, my body still required calories for energy on this day, so I was still going to eat', fantastic

  5. I think the problem with your project is your biased approach going into it. I understand what you are trying to do, but in reading you posts, you write as if your reader already know that you disapprove of this type of magazine, and reading your posts through that lens makes me less critical of the magazine. I think this blog would have worked better objectively, ie if you did not discuss your opinions but rather we saw your transformation as you become the perfect seventeenager, or even as a satire.

  7. Jamie,

I'm a little late in coming to your blog, but I just wanted to tell you how great this is... I do research on gender & disability, and it's so cool to see how you've integrated some research & stats here. I heard about you through feministing, and I'm excited to keep following! Good luck with college, and keep on writing.

  9. You have a very self-aware, mature style of writing and observation! Blogs did not exist when I was 18, but my friends and I ranted about a lot of these same topics! Keep up the good work!

  11. Not LGBT or commenting on a related issue but just wanted to say what a fantastic blog and project this is. I gave up reading teenage magazines when I was about 17 after realising how harmful they had been to my self esteem - which had led on to more serious problems. I wish your blog had been around then! And I also agree that teenage magazines need to do more to acknowledge LGBTers. Great work!

  14. I love that you wear Birkenstocks! I've been wearing them since eighth grade and still wear them in college, sometimes while ignoring bad weather.
